7 years of imprisonment and 10K fine for sexually assaulting minor daughter

Bhubaneswar, 23 Aug, 2025: The POCSO Court in Balasore district on Saturday sentenced Badal Singh, a resident of Basukhunta under Remuna police station limits, to seven years of imprisonment and imposed a fine of ₹10,000 for sexually assaulting his 10-year-old daughter.
According to case details, the victim, distressed by her father’s repeated assaults, confided in her maternal aunt, who later lodged a complaint at Remuna police station on January 2. Police swiftly registered the case and arrested the accused. During the investigation, police relied on advanced scientific methods, including DNA analysis and forensic evidence, to establish the accused’s guilt. Based on this evidence, as well as statements from the victim and witnesses, the court convicted Singh under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the POCSO Act.
The investigation was led by Sub-Inspector Subas Chandra Mallick, while government advocate Pranab Kumar Panda represented the prosecution. Odisha’s Director General of Police, Yogesh Bahadur Khurania, who personally monitors cases involving crimes against women and children, has directed investigating officers across the state to use modern forensic tools and file chargesheets swiftly in such sensitive cases. Police officials said this case highlights how scientific techniques, coupled with effective investigation, ensured justice for the minor.
