Two Odia Teachers Nominated for National Teachers Award 2025

Bhubaneswar,24/08: Two teachers from Odisha Basanta Kumar Rana and Tarun Kumar Dash, have been selected for the National Teachers’ Award 2025, the Ministry of Education announced on Monday. The awardees will be felicitated at a ceremony to be held at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi, on September 5, coinciding with Teachers’ Day celebrations.
Basanta Kumar Rana, working at the Government Upper Primary School in Kondel, Korkunda block of Malkangiri district is best known for his innovative and engaging teaching methods that have made a significant impact on students in remote areas. The second awardee, Tarun Kumar Dash, teaches at PM Shri Kendriya Vidyalaya in Koraput, where he is recognised for his commitment to quality education and student development. Both educators will receive a certificate of merit, a cash prize of ₹50,000, and a silver medal as part of the honour.
Odisha has consistently made its mark at the National Teachers’ Award in recent years. In 2024, Dwiti Chandra Sahu of Bileshu High School in Rayagada and Santosh Kumar Kar of Kalahandi were among the recipients. The National Teachers’ Award is presented annually on September 5, observed as Teachers’ Day to commemorate the birth anniversary of Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, the eminent philosopher, scholar, and former President of India. The award recognises teachers who have made outstanding contributions to the field of education and inspired generations of students.
