SOA STUDENT BRANCH OF IEEE, STUDENT BRANCH CHAPTER OF IEEE COMPUTER SOCIETY INAUGURATED

Bhubaneswar, Oct. 21: The Student Branch of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) was inaugurated recently at the Institute of Technical Education and Research (ITER), faculty of engineering and technology of SOA Deemed to be University here, aiming to promote professional, technical and research-oriented activities among students. The SOA Student Branch Chapter of the IEEE Computer Society was also launched simultaneously at the same event. The event commenced with Prof. Renu Sharma, Joint Secretary, IEEE, Bhubaneswar Section and Counsellor, IEEE, SOA Student Branch, highlighting the objectives and vision behind establishing the SOA Student Branch. Prof. Sharma, who is also Additional Dean (Student Affairs) at ITER, explained how the initiative would provide students with a global platform for innovation, collaboration and leadership in emerging technologies.
Prof. Pradipta Kumar Nanda, Vice-Chancellor of SOA, appreciated the efforts of the coordinators and student members for taking steps to strengthen IEEE activities within the university while encouraging students to engage in interdisciplinary research, professional development and community based engineering solutions in alignment with IEEE’s global mission. The event was also addressed by Prof. D.P. Dogra, Treasurer, IEEE Bhubaneswar Section and Associate Professor at IIT Bhubaneswar, Mr. Hare Krishna Rath, Advisor, IEEE Bhubaneswar Section and former Chair, IEEE, Bhubaneswar Sub-section, Prof. A.K. Tripathy, Advisor, IEEE, Bhubaneswar Section and former Director General, CPRI and General Manager, BHEL, Prof. Chinmoy Kumar Panigrahi, Vice-Chair, IEEE Bhubaneswar Section and Professor and Director, School of Electrical Engineering, KIIT University and Prof. Pratap Ranjan Mohanty, Chair (SAC), IEEE Bhubaneswar Section, and Professor, Department of EEE, Silicon University.
Prof. Dogra delivered an inspiring address highlighting IEEE’s role in bridging academia and industry through innovation and collaborative projects while Mr. Rath shared his experiences while working in DRDO and emphasized the importance of professional ethics, teamwork and technical excellence among budding engineers. Prof. Tripathy encouraged the students to leverage IEEE’s vast resources for developing sustainable technologies. Prof. Panigrahi highlighted the collaborative opportunities that IEEE offered among institutions to foster research and knowledge sharing while Prof. Mohanty appreciated the active involvement of SOA students in IEEE activities and encouraged more interdisciplinary engagements under the Student Activities Committee. Prof. Debahuti Mishra, Vice-Chair, IEEE Bhubaneswar Computer Society Chapter, Advisor, IEEE SOA Student Branch Chapter and Head, Department of Computer Science and Engineering, ITER, spoke about the vision and roadmap of the IEEE Computer Society Student Branch Chapter. She emphasized that this platform would help students explore cutting-edge domains such as AI, Cyber Security, and Data Science, while nurturing leadership and organizational skills.
Prof. Manoj Kumar Debnath, Advisor, IEEE SOA Student Branch, Department of Electrical Engineering, ITER, and Prof. Bharat J. R. Sahu, Advisor, IEEE SOA Student Branch, Center for Cyber Security, ITER, also addressed the gathering highlighting the importance of teamwork, research culture and professional development through IEEE initiatives. Mr. Manish Sahu, Chair, IEEE SOA Student Branch and IEEE Computer Society SOA Student Branch Chapter, proposed the vote of thanks.
