A life-size bronze statue of Swami Vivekananda has been unveiled in Seattle’s Westlake Square, marking a significant milestone in India–US cultural relations. This is the first time a US city government has hosted a statue of the 19th-century spiritual figure.
Located in the heart of downtown, the site attracts nearly 400,000 visitors daily. The statue was jointly unveiled by Seattle Mayor Katie Wilson and India’s Consul General in San Francisco, Prakash Gupta.
The event drew a broad range of elected officials and community members, including mayors and council representatives from several nearby cities. A large turnout from the Indian-American community underscored the occasion, which officials described as a historic and unprecedented initiative.
